OUR HISTORY

Clinica was created in 1977 by Latina activist Alicia Sanchez, whose colossal heart made up for her lack of education beyond high school as “la medica,” she would drive the area’s poor to the University Hospital in Denver so they could access quality low-cost primary health care.

Clinica Family Health offers medical, dental, behavioral, and pharmacy services today. Accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care and recognized as a Patient-Centered Medical Home by patients, their input has been integral in reaching both goals.

Clinica welcomes consumer participation at all levels and in all areas of its decision-making processes, from board meetings to monthly in-person meetings in English and Spanish, including formal committees such as its Patient Voice Committee, established in 2012. Clinica staff regularly solicit feedback from Patient Voice members regarding educational materials, marketing campaigns, phone trees, and referral processes — even on space design!

OUR VISION

When Alicia Sanchez began Clinica’s work in 1978 without a college degree, her passion and enthusiasm more than made up for any lack of credentials; she quickly earned the nickname of “la media,” taking migrant workers in her car to the University Hospital of Denver in Denver for low-cost medical care. Today, we continue her vision by providing access to medical and dental care throughout south Boulder County, Broomfield County, and West Adams counties and culturally appropriate, preventive healthcare solutions.

OUR MISSION

When commercial farms in Lafayette/Louisville employed hundreds of Spanish-speaking migrant workers and the nearest hospital was only a 99-bed unit in Louisville, Alicia Sanchez was known as “la medica.” Every week, she drove Susie to bring these families to the University Hospital for low-cost medical care at the University. She recognized a need in her community for quality primary health care, so Alicia founded Clinica in 1977 to offer people choices.
