Selecting Your Child’s 1st BMX Bicycle
It’s been in my heart to publish this article for some time now. This article is composed to serve parents just about everywhere when shopping for their boy’s or perhaps girl’s first BMX cycle!
For over seven years, I managed my bike shop away from my parent’s home in Dirección, Arizona, Donnie’s Bicycle Go shopping. It thrills me to be able to no end to be able to share several key pieces of information with you!
1st, let’s talk about BMX cycle names and where you must or shouldn’t buy your youngster or daughter’s first motorbike. You can’t go wrong with Haro. HARO BMX has been around for so long, and they keep coming together with new and innovative layouts. Also, Diamond Back is trustworthy and lightweight, and the company is rock solid all over again. Red-Line BMX is also highly recommended.
Mongoose is my BMX distinctive line of choice when purchased from a real bike shop; this knows what they are doing. Mongoose has been making BMX cycles that kick everybody’s tails for years, making the most wonderful bikes! But you must consult your local real cycle shop owner because you may want to buy from Wal-Mart or perhaps another chain store. Furthermore, you may want to contact Mongoose immediately and request a race-bike BMX catalog only.
My 1st BMX bike was a cycle called the JAG BMX simply by Mongoose, and the bike dished up me well for many years. If you can get ahold of one, it is sure worth it. My 1st bike had a polished cream-orange frame with whitened MotoMags. I recommend Motomags. Yet be careful; there are no Motomag copies and many of them. The particular mag has to say Motomag on it.
A word about side handles! Today’s BMX bikes usually come out with uncomfortable side handles for the kids’ hands! Have the bike shop owner explain to you the array of grips obtainable, and to me, a polyurethane foam style is the best, or a soft gel rubber is OK too. I always treasured the foam grips when moving because they absorb the zap of the fall!
Watch out for GT’s Dyno line. The support frames on most of them are not as sound and if you don’t believe my family, go to your neighborhood thrift retailer, and you’ll see a ton connected with GT Dynos. I examine buying my son or daughter a new GT bike unless it turns out one of their top-of-the-line designs. I also had a problem airborne with them upon landing, compared to the awesome Mongoose BMX my pops bought for me at the regional bike shop in Dirección.
Buy your child’s bike from your regular bike shop. Tend not to buy it at Wal-Mart, Target, Costco, or Sam’s Club. These bikes carry what they are called Schwinn, Mongoose, and more, although let me guarantee you, they could be recycled the real Mccoy!
That said, in addition, watch out for high-pressure bike sales agents. Believe it or not, they are out there! If they might have such a good product, the reason they have to pressure great deals is you?
Back to brand names. If you plan to buy a Schwinn, Mongoose, or another formerly well-trusted motorbike, deal with the company directly or maybe a reputable bike shop in the market. You won’t find any Wal-Mart BMX bikes in your neighborhood bicycle shop!
Now, in respect of hardware! If you’re going to get a son or daughter a bike, make sure you spend money on ultra-lightweight aluminum or Chromoly rims. So many motorcycles out there are being sold with low-cost rims and cranksets. It is worth the extra one to two hundred dollars to get your child the components. They will last longer, and your child will have one of the best and saddest BMX bikes in the area!
That said, invest in three-part aluminum cranks or one particular piece of aluminum, titanium, or perhaps Chromoly or whatever different space-shuttle type of materials they get! Don’t opt out of frequent steel cranks. Get a motorbike with a lifetime or a new twenty-year frame assurance.
If you want to buy a vintage BMX motorbike from e-bay or a neighborhood auction, invest in the 1984 Schwinn Sting. That bike is seemingly bad to the bone, gentleman. Any newer versions with the Schwinn Sting should be ordered as well.
Ok, let’s focus on rims. Rims need to be a light source. So many BMX bikes include heavy, bulky rims. Tires and rims should be lightweight alloys. Furthermore, you want to request sealed impact hubs because they don’t require virtually any maintenance, almost ever, and they also make them on the best BMX bikes everywhere.
Also, rely on your child. If they love the cycle, it’s the bike for them. Yet let them know you love them adequate to request upgrades around the rims, tires, and tires!
Also, BMX bikes really should have mid-range to best brakes. Acquire alloy again or large dollar brakes. This is your son or daughter’s safety, for goodness sake! Do you know how many cheap braking there are on BMX cycles? You don’t want to know, believe my family. I’ve broken several by myself over the years!
If the bike delivers it, it’s OK to achieve the standard hub that concessions with their right leg likewise, and handbrakes, double often the stopping power! Choose a mid-range helmet that is ANSI Certified and is labeled simply by them. Get gloves that can be of excellent quality as well. Every BMX bike should have a gooseneck, handlebar, and top body pads, bare minimum, do not let your youngster take the bike without them.
Welded glasses should have lovely thick welds you want to eat off these people. Don’t buy any motorcycle with ugly-looking welds. Also, watch out for overpriced bicycles with beautiful welds but low componentry.
I always prefer to buy my BMX bicycles with similar equipment as well! If hubs, cranks, wheels, and so forth are all Shimano, this is a good thing. The bike is Shimano equipped. I’d stay away from BMX bikes with lightweight handlebars but heavy churns and hubs made by ten different companies!
In conclusion, you will find only a few key things to remember. Weight. Get the lowest bodyweight rims, hubs, and elements of the highest quality. It is OK to have a heavier framework, but don’t compromise upon wheels, tires, or the majority of all brakes! Buy a Haro, Diamond-Back, Red-Line, or Mongoose from the Bike Dealer, and you get happy! Don’t buy from the neighborhood chain stores anymore! Buy direct from your community bike shop that has learned BMX!
Lastly, have fun, along with jumping! If you can’t typically jump the bike, don’t buy the idea. The frames should be cleaned for jumping! And remember, primarily, your BMX bike would have been a part of your son or daughter’s life for at least 5-7 years, so try, spend a couple hundred, far more for better components. Bear in mind that to hit a ramp, take a flight up, hold the bars, give up the rear wheel out, and hang on, feeling nothing but air and rising above the globe, on a BMX Bike, is usually something your child will never at any time forget and will pass on via generation to generation.
